Characteristics of Spinal Pain and its Causes

The spine consists of cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral and coccygeal vertebrae. Each of these segments can be affected by pain. It can even be just specific vertebrae which are affected.

60 to 80% of the world population experiences lower back pain. In 65% of those affected, it is a recidivate or long-term condition.

There is a wide range of causes. Oftentimes, they are serious and mobility-endangering conditions.

The most common cause of pain is an inappropriate way of performing everyday tasks.

Pain is also often caused by:

  • Bad posture,
  • weakening of back and abdominal muscles,
  • sedentary job,
  • jobs involving lifting heavy weights,
  • unilateral load,
  • insufficient or excess activity
  • chilling of the back,
  • stress,
  • obesity,
  • degenerative changes to the spine,
  • injuries.

Spinal pain can, however, be also caused by sudden herniation of a disc, diseases of some internal organs or by increased strain due to pregnancy.

Acute back pain can last from several days to several weeks. Acute pain leads to restricted mobility.

Chronic back pain last several months or recidivates several times a year and is localized to a certain area of the spine. Chronic pain is often accompanied by headache, or possibly by issues with sensitivity and a tingling sensation in limbs.

Spinal Pain Treatment – Rid yourself of the Pain

Spinal pain treatment depends on the cause. Based on examination of spinal mobility, blood tests inquiring into inflammatory processes and imaging methods examinations, the most suitable treatment is recommended.

If you own the AL16-LUM polarised light applicator, further contraindications are:

  • Shining directly in one’s eyes (applicable in case of applying polarised light)
  • With metabolic disorders, where skin becomes photosensitive and while using photostimulating substances (applicable in case of applying polarised light)

Side effects:
While applying treatment, special caution should be paid to patients with hypertension and        hypotension (or with predisposition to it).
Individual effects and using magnetic therapy need to be judged upon particular conditions and reactions of individual patients.
