Hair loss and regrowth treatment using low-frequency pulsed magnetic therapy was evaluated in the study with 93 volunteers. The results were published in the journal Advances in Therapy.
This double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study tested the biological effects of a 26-week combined treatment of pulsed electromagnetic fields and essential oils on hair loss and regrowth in healthy male and female volunteers.
The active group, contrary to placebo group, showed a decrease in hair loss in 83% of volunteers while at the same time 53% of patients experienced hair growth by more than 20%. This combination therapy showed no side effects or adverse reactions.
Histological examination findings correlated with the conclusion of the study. Parallel immunohistochemical examination showed an increase in proliferation index. It was found that, when the expression of Ki67 (a marker of cell proliferation) increases, then mitosis are barely visible in the histological examination. Electrophysiological effects on the hair follicle are suspected to be the cause behind this phenomenon; that is the effect of pulsed magnetic therapy in combination with essential oils (head massage three times a week with E2F7 oil followed by 30-minute pulsed magnetic therapy).
The results of this study demonstrate the ability of pulsed magnetic therapy to stop hair loss and also confirm the positive biological effect of pulsed magnetic fields on their regrowth.
